You don't need to recompile PHP to get imap support if you compile
the extension as a share extension.
Don't tell me with your knowledge and resources of afp548.com you
don't know how to perform this simple task cause I'd have a hard
time to stop laughing and am already amazed that you had to ask
such a simple-minded question to begin with.

For many people compiling a shared extension is more difficult than
installing a fully featured third party php install like the Entropy
one.
