The reference is to the Cisco IOS patchwork of code containing tons of stuff
strung together by various folks for various purposes over the years. Now
that I think of it, it's sorta like Windoze .... But you can actually get
the IOS to work. However, as long as it's a compilation it will have lots of
seams that rip. And there's a ton of deprecated stuff in there that needs to
come out. A rewrite won't be perfect, but a coherent starting point for the
future.
