No, the client is actually missing pieces, among them slapconfig,
NeST, (not
as important as it used to be, but still needed in many
implementations),
serveradmin, . Open Directory is more than just OpenLDAP and some kerb
tools. I've also not found CL management of Open Directory to be
any more
tedious than the GUI.

I don't use the SA GUI tools and can't endorse them as useful tools when they have a tendency to be destructive so I couldn't tell you.

Other than the well-known DNS issues, (which, since you can't fully
configure DNS with them *anyway* makes that pretty much a non- issue), the
Server Admin tools are not possessed of a "tendency to be destructive".

Now that's a load a crap, look at the list archives on issues such as postfix configuration files being corrupted and then say that DNS is the only issue, you only know what you have experienced or have knowledge of.

What about the passwordserver software, I supposed it 100% fully function in your eyes as well.

By the time you beat on OS X client to be able to duplicate Server
sans the
server administrator tools, you're going to spend as much, if not
more in
time than the cost of server just getting it ready to go.

What beat?? the server has problems of it's own, by the time you've rebuilt some binaries fixing Apple's screw-ups and faulty programming, it doesn't matter if you do it on server or client, you can chose to work with broken software and a GUI if it's what you want, you can chose to fix the problems and use the Apple provided GUI tools if you want and you're free like others are to use without a GUI and there are other GUI tools besides those provided by Apple so there are always options.

Again, show me how, with the same level of effort, you're going to replicate
Open Directory and all its management capabilities in client as you get from
Server.

Show me how I can't.

Maybe your time is of little to no value to you, but I don't have
time to
waste on proving that something can be done when there's no
technical reason
to justify it. That's just ego and sysadmindick-waving, and I don't
get paid
for that.

Right, time, let's see, I start my script, go to sleep, wake up and it's fixed, what time have I lost or wasted???

I get it now, you're one of those who'd rather play with a broken toy
because it's provided by Apple rather than one that works properly.

Again, show me your homegrown replacement for Open Directory and it's
featureset that works transparently with other OS X and windows clients, AND
takes less or equal effort to using server.

You're asking me to give away my secrets for free??? pay for my time and I'm sure I can manage to put together a minimum of about 40 hours worth of details and information on the subject.

Since you seem to be content to work with broken software and have a preconceived notion that no other tools exist and that the tools Apple provides are all that, why are you wasting my time???

While I think it's nice that you are dedicated to Apple with a do or die mentality, it's a shame they aren't as dedicated towards you and not offered you broken goods hidden behind some new offered feature that's probably nothing more than eye-candy.

It's a shame that I'm thinking you are not being terribly clear about
exactly what you're talking about, thereby allowing you to make any claims
you like.

I'm being just as clear as you are.

I've gone through most of the source code regarding software issues and have fixed everything that has posed or could become a potential problem for me and since I don't use the GUI tools that you rely on it makes no difference if I build the files on server or client OS, it works in both OS's.

The only reason I shelled out the $1k a pop software purchases for many machines was to prevent any kind of illegal licensing issue that might arise but I can asure you that these expensive purchases have been dwindling because it seems Apple is unable to fix their own software that I end up fixing and in doing so realize that the extravagant charges for the software are becoming more and more of a lesser requirement as I am able to produce the exact same result utilizing client OS software since I have to rebuild the majority of it because of poor programming practices.

Do I care if it works for you, not in this lifetime, do I care if Apple actually fixes any of the problems any more, no, I gave up waiting for them to fix anything a long time ago, some one I know currently employed by Apple has already informed me of the current fix/release policy which was more than reason enough for me to go ahead and fix things for myself and leave people like you to continue waiting on Apple.
