For what it's worth, about six months ago I noticed two new G5s
(1.8GHz DPs)
on the same subnet would -insist- on leasing the same IP. I know no
one
will believe this, but it turned out that both machines (part of the
same
production batch, BTW) shipped with identical MAC addresses. No,
really.
I'd never seen that, anywhere, and it took a little while to convince
Apple
that had happened [at which point they got pretty interested; with the
possibility of that happening more than once on the production line
would be
very, very bad.)
So, who knows? It's worth the ten seconds it takes to look at the
ethernet
IDs.
This sort of thing, while rare, does happen.
In my former life as a mechanic we had two Audi 4000s in the shop at
the same time that had the same keys... :)
