NetInfo/LDAP Master server role

I am currently looking at an G4 Xserve running 10.4.6 that is showing NetInfo/LDAP Master as its role in Server Admin. I recently upgraded from server 10.3.9 and now when using WGM I can select both the expected /NetInfo/DefaultLocalNode directory but also a NetInfo/Root directory. There are the same user records in both. The server should be just Standalone. I can see a local.nidb but also a network.db where I assume I should only see a local.nidb when in /var/db/netinfo.

End users are unable to authenticate when trying to connect to AFP shares , the workaround is to reset their passwords in WGM . However this is quite an inconvenience , I am keen to revert the server back to Standalone but am concerned that by changing roles I may lose existing user and share records. Has anyone had any experience of this? or know what may have created this additional server role?

thanks

mike
