I just started getting warning messages that the startup disk is almost full.
Where and what can I do to resolve this. It is slowing down the performance.
Thank You,

Check the log folder in the root HD Library. If it is a rouge log the folder will be huge. Delete the appropriate log.

First off, it's ROGUE, the color of the log shouldn't matter.

Typo, and I did not start this thread, Billy Jack Dial did ;-)

If it is a rogue log you have to do more than delete the log.

Not in my experience. You may need to find the cause but a deletion gets the space back ASAP.

I had this happen once on this iBook, 10.3.9. I ended up with an 18Gb log file. I never found out exactly what was causing it but a restart cleared it, then I deleted the log file.

Just happened to me 3 days ago I had 4 terminal windows open (normal daily monitoring) tailing some logs and left for 3 hours. Came back and there was a message on my G5 that basically all the space was gone and to delete some files to make some room. The first place I looked was the root library log folder and it was 50 gigs. The log file for the terminal windows opened had just thrown a turd. This never happened before ever in 4 years. Deleted the file and restarted and all is back to normal.

If not a log look at each folder on the drive to see what is taking up the space.

Do you know if this happened all of a sudden or gradually. It being a server it's entirely possible some user uploaded some monster file / folder. I've had that happen and the user had no clue it was a problem.

You would need to ask the poster.

Remember unless you are logged in as root the individual user folders will not be accessible and therefore the folder space totals won't show what is in them. You can use the du command under sudo to see them though.
