gethostname doesn't match and changeip

G4 Xserve, 10.4.6

I have a server that recently started to completely lock up on a regular basis, and according to the system.log file, right before this happens, I get a servermgr_dns error: gethostname() doesnt' match the configured name - use changeip to repair. Which I've done several times now. When I run changip -checkhostname I get output that says everything's fine, and there's nothing to change. I am running the tool per the doc's, I've done it several times in the past with no problem, so it's not going to be user error per this thread: http://lists.apple.com/archives/Macos-x-server/2005/Jul/ msg00466.html

In fact, the IP hasn't changed, nothing has changed with this box in quite some time. So, perhaps this is an issue with the OD it's a part of? During the execution, I authenticate with the directory admin, and I get positive confirmation that changes are updated. Is there any way to check this beyond the script output? Most importantly, does anybody think this could actually be causing the box to freeze up? I'm really not seeing anything else that indicates big trouble in the logs, but I know how much that often accounts for;-) Thanks.

Bill
