Re: Xserve restarting itself

No, there's definitely not overloading going on. My point was that if it was a UPS issue, then other machines would be having problems as well.

Also, just found the panic.log entry as previously mentioned.

I had an Xserve spontaneously reboot due to a UPS overload. Usage would suddenly spike and trip the xserve. Swapping out the faulty UPS worked. When you wrote "I have a ton of other machines on the same plug strip" it just caught my attention.

Has anyone heard of MySQL kernel panicing? And wouldn't I get a crash.log if it did?

I've got an xserve running 10.3.9 and MySQL 4 that is restarting
itself every 2-3 days. I don't have any direct access to the
machine (colocated), so unsure if it's a kernel panic or what. System.log doesn't show anything, nor are there any crash.logs.

Any idea on where I can look next for any further clues as to the
cause of the restarts? I know it's not a hardware problem, as I
swapped the machine over the weekend.

Have you taken a look at the watchdog log? (/Library/Logs/watchdog.event.log)

All I see at restart is:

#Start-Date: 2006-06-12 06:53:03 PDT
#Fields: date time s-comment
2006-06-12 06:53:03 PDT Started child "/usr/sbin/PasswordService" as pid 310.
2006-06-12 06:53:03 PDT Started child "/usr/sbin/PrintServiceMonitor"
as pid 311.
2006-06-12 06:53:03 PDT Started child "/usr/sbin/hwmond" as pid 312.
2006-06-12 06:53:03 PDT Started child "/usr/libexec/postfix/master" as pid 314.
2006-06-12 06:53:03 PDT Automatic reboot timer enabled.

No indication of the cause of the restart still... any other ideas?
