There was a utility for NT that allowed you to convert an application to
a service...It didn't always work....but I used it for a few things.
You are correct though...if you have a service, there should be a
separate GUI to configure the service...a Preferance Pane would be
perfectly suited for this.....or, like mentioned originally, a add-on
for Server Admin.....
You might want to consider a web admin interface on the server as
well...

I don't believe it is possible to make a standard GUI application run
as a service on Windows, either. The developers of the application
have to do some work to turn an application into a service on Windows,
and the same goes for OS X - I have never seen a Windows service which
provides UI, that doesn't make any sense.
