Thread-topic: Authentication from Windows PDC: username aliases?
You can define a Pre-Windows 2000 username in the user setup or use
email@hidden. These work when attempting to log into OS X
machines.

Subject: Authentication from Windows PDC: username aliases?
We have an XServe G5 running Panther Server 10.3.9. It is the only Mac
in our building, and we use it as our company's mail server for both POP
and SMTP. At the moment it is running as a standalone server for
purposes of authentication.
Some time ago, I purchased a Tiger Server upgrade, but I haven't gotten
around to installing it yet. When I do install it, I'd like to do a
clean install (reformat) and make the machine a member of the Windows
domain so that it fetches all authentication credentials from the
Windows PDC.
An MCSE buddy of mine claims that one cannot create username aliases for
domain users under Windows Server 2003. Seems pretty cheesy to me, but
somehow I believe it. Our company policy dictates that one MUST have an
email address that is generated as (first initial)+(complete last
name)+(@implantsciences.com), with as many aliases as that user wants in
addition. But we have no such policy with Windows domain usernames, so
we have users whose AD/Windows domain login is, e.g. (informal first
name)+(last initial) if that user's last name is particularly long.
If the OSXS machine fetches all authentication info from a Windows AD
domain, is it possible still to define username aliases for each domain
user account, e.g., in WGM? If so, I imagine the aliases would only be
valid on the OSXS machine, but that's fine, since we only need to have
aliases for email purposes.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
-Dan
