OMG! WTF happens when they turn on the TV and see ads for... viagra!
Some people need to act their age. ;)
... or a news story about a evil, pompous, self-important radio show
host who is so full of &#$* that he can't get it.... never mind. I
digress.
The poster has a point though. There is a certain attitude that
spam, like junkmail, is "just a way of life". This is poppycock.
Neither mail or email were designed for mounds of unsolicited junk
that is destroying the internet and our planet. If people get off
their butts and take affirmative steps to voice displeasure at their
existence, more will be done to at all levels to work against them.
Email is a personal communication. If people expect a level of
<gasp>privacy</gasp>, they are somewhat justified. What about
children with email accounts? Should they be subjected to such
things?
Children should be supervised. This holds just as true for them
reading email as it does for playing in the park. If you don't want
the crust old pervert contacting them ion either place you make sure
they're watched.
Email is not a private form of communications by any means, so any
expectations for privacy are unfounded. That people are often
misinformed on things is hardly novel.
If people want privacy in their email then they should use mechanisms
to assure that, such as PGP.
