The point is that people shouldn't receive something in a personal
communication system that they didn't ask for.
Email is not a "personal communication system". If you believe this
then that's your problem right there.
The Postal System isn't a "personal communication system" either.
Moreover email is far from private, unlike the Postal System. While
mail in the Post may be placed inside envelopes, email is more like
writing on post cards. Anyone can read your message in the clear
anywhere along the path through which it is sent.
