SMB vs AFP

Wondering if anyone has run into this before...I have a 4.5TB volume on an xserve. Connecting via AFP, finder windows shows the correct available disk space in the bottom bar of the window (4.5TB). When connecting to the same volume via SMB, it always shows 548GB available. I'm trying to figure out if this is a Finder bug or something or is there some type of smb share limit on OS X ?
