Sorry, i know this sounds bitter, my bitterness isn't directed at
anyone, or this list. It's just a cry for help, really.
'Hey, mr mactech, when can i print from this machine?'
'Hey student, well, i've already configured this 10.4.11 new intel imac
to log in via active directory, and that points to your home directory.
No problems there. It's just i now have to add Mac OS X OD 10.4.11 MCX
to your Authentication path so you can pick up your print prefs, etc.
The only thing is that this will stop you from logging in. But if you
try again and again, eventually it seems to work. This might take 10
minuites, or an hour, or a few days'
Would Sherlock Holmes be satisfied if the police said to him "It's OK,
Sherlock, we don't care who killed him anymore. It seems that maybe
there wasn't a murder in the first place, so there maybe no clues. But
keep looking anyway, because if you don't, your not doing your job
properly"?
My clients can't log in
Well, if i try, repeatedly, reboot, try again, eventually they seem to
log in and everything is fine, as far as i can tell.
This is the most unsatisfying fix to a problem: Can't log in? Well,
keep telling it to log in and eventually, after a few minuites, or
hours, or days, it will. Maybe. Great, only another 25 to go!
Anyway, i checked many logs, client and server. Here's the only
relevant info i could find in secure.log on the client (if anyone can
tell me which log i should be looking at then please do). I checked
before and after a successful login. here's my results:
from /var/log/secure.log. A failed login:

</paste>
That's all the info pertaining to the login. It's these last 2 line
that should contain the clues. It mentions: returned
30....SourceCache...returned -2
Something being cached would explain a lot here. But what / where?
These machines have the same build installed via netinstall, FWIW.
Any help much appreciated,
Colin
