Hi Gerben
Let me just say that in terms of following this thread, Dan's answer
is extremely helpful. Remember that if this was about solving your
problem alone then the discussion should be between you and your
consultant. Because this is thrown out to a discussion list then
everyone in theory might gain something, and so questions are entirely
justified where information about your particular setup are
incomplete. I've learnt something about VPNs just by following this
thread, so it's all good.
And this is nothing about being "perfect", neither is it about being
an expert. However, it is about doing some homework and then being
able to ask the right questions to get the answers that will solve
your problem. Without delving into the bedside manner that is Dan's
(which personally I find both amusing and informative), you will find
that he is seeking answers that will solve the problem. Given the
number of questions you have initiated over the past couple of weeks
I'm assuming you are new to the list. Please do not confuse the
usefulness of probing questions with the legion of personalities that
people love to ascribe to Dan. He is one of the most useful people on
the list and treat his answers as such, no matter how they may seem at
first reading!
So, while I'm not going to advance your query from my own personal
insight, I'm going to say that these questions are most pertinent,
because I recognise them as such myself (having been in your position
minus 4-5 years -- yes, do expect to still be learning many years from
now...).
Have a great Christmas and good luck with the VPN!
Nick
PS Happy Christmas/Holidays to everyone and best wishes for 2008!
I'm not even a small-time contributor to
email@hidden but I've learnt so much, especially
from Dan, John Welch, Michael Bartosh (bless his memory), Josh, Joel,
the Daves, Nigel K, etc and the many other proponents of solutions and
good practice that I can hardly believe you have time to do a day job
too!
