Re: Leopard server issue - iTunes subscriptions

Hmm:

feed://podcast.forrest.k12.ms.us/users/nfhsseniors/blog/index.its

Well, Safari agrees that it's an RSS feed.    Not a valid one, but it loads.    What's with the " &lt;div class="wiki_entry"&gt;" in the source code (which gets parsed out to <div class="wiki_entry"> In the browser.)   Did you edit the feed or have them paste that into every entry?

Are they pasting the Quicktime HTML code into the body of the blog?    Because the blog will convert all < into %lt;.  That raw feed above may be your biggest clue as to why it's not being parsed by the RSS reader, and why iTunes is ultimately failing.

Your feed appears to have correct data in it.    Is the .its file extension new?    Seems like the server doesn't know what headers to send with an .its file extension.   My podcasts iTunes subscription links end in "?flavor=rss2"  - but then it's still Tiger too.   I suppose you could try and assign the .its MIME type to whatever is currently set to parse .rss files.

Your headers read as:

HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error

Server: Twisted/2.5.0 TwistedWeb/[twisted.web2, version 0.2.0]

Instead of: (example: ours)

HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Using this curl command in the terminal:
curl --dump-header /test.txt "http://podcast.forrest.k12.ms.us/users/nfhsseniors/blog/index.its" -O > /dev/null

curl --dump-header /test.txt "http://podcasts.science.nd.edu/weblog/chem11171/?flavor=rss2" -O > /dev/null

I'm not sure how your RSS link got screwed up, but it's not what any RSS reader expects to find.

Good luck.

Hello,

I have a Apple Xserve (originally running Tiger) that was running a blog for
some podcasting training that I was doing with some faculty at our high
school. Faculty could subscribe to the podcast/blog in iTunes using the link
provided for them automatically on the blog page. This was working fine and
would update the podcast subscription for the faculty user as postings were
added.

I got my Leopard cd in the mail for the Xserve. The faculty were ready for
students (high school seniors) to start working/posting podcasts, the next
step for podcasting in our district. I took an afternoon an did the Leopard
install in hopes that we might also use the wiki/shared calendar offerings
available in Leopard.

I did a standard install for the Leopard server, set up the users and
groups, and then starting posting to the newly created user blogs. In the
blog for the seniors, I enabled the podcast blog setting. The blog shows a
Subscribe in iTunes link which opens iTunes and subscribes the visitor to
the podcast. However, it will not load any of the podcast/blog entries into
iTunes.

You can see the blog here,
http://podcast.forrest.k12.ms.us/users/nfhsseniors/blog/

I would appreciate any direction/advice on how to get the iTunes
subscription to start pulling in the postings. I want to get this available
and publicized soon so that our students can show off their work publicly.

Thanks,
Dane
