Doing some routine maintenance I copied a file to the root of the
drive and it appeared to have hung, I waited it out and after about
a minute it was running fine again.
Run Activity Monitor while the copying is taking place. Watch CPU,
disk and network in turn and see if you can identify anything unusual
happening.
