In a Tiger OD Environment, can I use 10.3 server for storage?

Dear Fellow Server Wranglers,

Our setup is 10.4, top to bottom, in a complete OD Master/Replica environment (which the good folks on this list have helped me to create, thank you!). I even have it getting new users automatically via SIF from our student information system, which saves lots of time.

I have one remote site with an older server running 10.3. I would love to bring them into the glory of OD and having student logins appearing miraculously and all that. But I'd rather not buy another server license if I don't have to.

If I bind the clients to the 10.4 OD master, can I still park their home directories on the local 10.3 server? Assuming I can connect the 10.3 server to the OD, is there any reason this won't work?

I know the LDAP attributes changed between versions, but should that matter if the only thing it has to do is pay attention to who owns what folder?

Thank you!
-M
