Re: Re-Installing OS X Server 10.4 - FIXED

Thanks Dan,

I feel the same way. But when the server is down, one has to consider the options to get back to where you have to be.

In this case, I botched an upgrade of ClamAV by installing the wrong version. My bad. I then installed the correct version.

Immediately afterward, web services quit. In addition, some applications failed to launch (Disk Utility).

I searched the archives and found the apachectl start command. It revealed a syntax error in httpd.conf, dealing with php4.

I commented out the two php lines in httpd.conf file....and apache did start...without php of course.

But I still had the problem with launching files.

Console revealed a consistent mention of file called libcurl.3.dylib. in the usr/lib/ directory. The file did not appear in the directory.

I was able to restore the file from backup and figure out how to copy to the usr/lib directory.

That fixed app launching problem.

I restarted and everything went back to normal.

My I have an atta-boy please? ;-)

Woeking through a long distance emergency here. My web services won't start up after performing a third party software update (ClamAV). I believe that I need to re-install Server on the machine that is located in a colo facility.

The question: can OS X Server 10.4 be re-installed in a repair mode, rather than blow away the entire disk?

It would seem more sensible that since the OS is working that you wouldn't blow it away but instead focus on getting "web services" working.

You may want to look at your log files for tell-tale clues as to why it's failing. The system log files and apache log files are good places to start.

`apachectl configtest` should tell you if there's a problem with the configuration files for apache but more th

You might also want to check to see if there's something else now using it's port(s). For this lsof can tell you what's open and by whom.
