Moving to OSX Server 10.4.8 universal binary

Hi

We have are currently using the power pc?? version of OSX server and have been recommended to install the universal binary to hopefully resolve some issues we are having with the server currently.

I understand it requires a new install rather than upgrade. Could someone confirm please.

#1, Does this mean that the drive will need to be formatted or will it just reinstall over the existing version. If it just installs over the existing version does it leave all config files in place or does it need to be completely reinstalled?

#2, If it does require a full rebuild does anyone know if there is a concise list being created of all the files or folder that should be backed up and restored after then install? eg /etc and /var /named etc files. This would help to ensure that our list is complete and nothing is missed.

We have 5 servers effected that are a mix of open directory master and replicas. running virtually all services over they various machines and locations.

I have looked for this info, but as yet have not been able to find anything reliable that answers these questions.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
Stephen
