Server Admin: Hang while saving Mail Service settings

Hello Fellow OS X Administrators,

I'm administrating an Xserve Dual G4 1.5 GHz running Mac OS X Server 10.4.8. We virtually host websites for about 15 clients, with email on about 10 of them.

Lately, whenever I've changed the Mail Virtual Host settings or added a new Mailing List from Server Admin running on my MacBook, I click save and the spinner appears. Then I watch the spinner and wait. Up to 15 minutes later, Server Admin comes back with an error, sometimes "Could not save the settings," sometimes "Server disconnected."

I've resorted to manually editing /etc/postfix/virtual_domains and creating Mailman lists by hand to get around this problem.

I've got the same version of Server Tools on my MacBook as on the Xserve; other than this we've had no trouble using Server Admin and Workgroup Manager.

So, has anyone else had this happen, and is there a solution?

Thanks in advance! - Fred Alger System Administrator. Kevin Veatch Design, Inc.
