re software updates

After looking through the logfiles on the computers that are effected I see
this:
2007-01-30 10:27:22.091 System Preferences[186] scan:didFailWithError: NSError
"XML parser error:
	Encountered unexpected EOF
Old-style plist parser error:
	Malformed data byte group at line 1; invalid hex

Failure occurs almost immediately upon clicking get updates.  Any ideas what
causes this?
