I can't think of any reason why a 500GB or 750GB module wouldn't work, since the only real need is support for "Large Disks" (>137GB).

I can think of a few rather quick:

How about power, heat and other environmental?

I would imagine that, as the table indicates, it's just that these drives aren't "qualified" or supported for use in the older machines, not that they won't work just fine.

Which is going to lead to a rather quick "that configuration isn't supported" when you run into a problem.
