We're using BRU and a 7-tape Exabyte LTO-2 library, which meets your specs exactly. The library connects to a G5 tower via a SCSI card.

The Exabyte is nothing other than excellent. The only thing I'm not entirely keen on about this situation is the restore feature of BRU. It is a little clunky if you're used to more smooth interfaces such as Retrospect. But the BRU engine is very solid (unlike Retro) and, once you get used to it, pretty easy to deal with. There are better backup softwares, but they will definitely cost more.

BRU keeps the interface abstracted from the engine, so you can run it from your own computer. Or even start a process on one computer, then monitor it from another.

BRU is sophisticated enough to deal with a stage drive, so you can backup to a cheap hard drive (500GB LaCie external is now $120!), then suck that down to tape at your leisure. This has the advantage of making restores of the latest backup almost instantaneous, and also ensuring that your backup procedure isn't slowed by tape functions. Since the drive is only a stage, and everything then goes to tape, you can get away with a "disposable" grade drive with no worries.
