I need a solid backup solution recommendation for OSX server.
No, you first need a Backup Policy.
Then you need a Backup Strategy.
At this point the answers to your questions about Backup
Implementation are normally answered for themselves.
This is not a glib response. What suits one organization is generally
unsuited for another b/c they have different goals.
Because
I deal with a lot with images some of my files store 50+ GIGs that I
need to archive permanently each week.
Archiving and Backup are two different beasts as well.
SO here is the spec.
I need a solution that includes:
1. Software backup application (no scripted or rysnc/ditto solutions)
Note that a suitable scripted set of tools *is* a "backup
application". So you're self limiting numerous options that are very
good choices.
2. LTO drive 200G+
This has very little to do with anything.
3. SCSI controller
See above.
We have a Tiddler on Backup vs Archives and Backup Policy on our web
site which might help you.
Also have you read the O'Reilly Indian Gavial book? You probably
should first. Note too that the older version "Unix Backup &
Recovery" is also still very relevant as it contains a lot of good
background information about backups that a sysadmin is expected to
understand before tackling the questions you're ignoring.
