Assuming this is a 10.4.X installation, have you run scutil?
I would run the following:
"sudo scutil --set HostName ns1.igods.com"
Then see if the hostname resolves correctly.
I would also look at /etc/hostconfig and make sure that "hostname" is set to
"automatic"
