Re: Info field in WGM

Hello Andre,

i checked the mappings on our Xserve, which is bound to the external LDAP-server:

record type "people" is mapped to "inetOrgPerson", containing the following attributes:

RecordName - cn
RealName - cn
LastName - sn
FirstName - givenName
EMailAddress - mail
PhoneNumber - telephoneNumber
FaxNumber - fax

In ConsoleOne or iManager both have the ability to display the schema - it is possible that these attributes have not be made available to the User container
and several more. All these fields should be read by the "Info" field. This looks correct to me.
But: None of them is displayed in WGMs User "Info", so i am under the impression that they are unmapped on the LDAP-server (Novell eDirectory). How can i see what is mapped on the server?
I am not allowed to write my settings back to the server. The novell admin advised me to tell him what i need and he will write it back to eDirectory, sometimes...
How can i check if he has done what he has promised, how can i check the settings on the LDAP-server?

However I would definitely suggest that putting DirectoryServices into debug mode:

sudo killall -USR1 DirectoryService

and looking at the /Library/Logs/DirectoryService/DirectoryServicedebug.log will give assistance with determining more about your issue.  As an example - you will often get an OD error logged when trying to write an attribute.

I am trying to populate a Users "Info"-field with WGM. I click on the little globe in WGM and register as a domain administrator on our LDAP-server (Novell eDirectory). I select a users account and click on "Info". All fields are empty. I enter some information (e.g. Address) and click on "Save". A few moments later, all fields returned blank again, without any other message. Nothing is saved.
What is going wrong?

I would guess that either your LDAP service doesn't have schema defined for these attributes, or they are not mapped correctly in the ldap client configuration. Use Directory Access to examine the current mappings; you will probably find that user attributes such as EMailAddress, PhoneNumber, etc are unmapped. This is kind of a big topic; I recommend a good read of the Open Directory guide. There is also this:
