Re: Info field in WGM

I mapped the attributes as followed:
labeledURI	URL
apple-webloguri	WebLogURI
apple-imhandle	IMHandle

After having done that, I could enter data into all the appropriate fields using WGMs Info.
As a second step, I pointed Apples AddressBook application to our LDAP server and it shows valid entries for
Telephone, eMail and Address, but Chat is still empty.
Readable in WGM, but not in AddressBook?
What could cause this discrepancy?

I believe this is either a bug or 'feature opportunity'.

If we turn up slapd debug logging to 256 (and set the StandardErrorPath and StandardOutPath in the slapd launchd plist), we see the following request issued on behalf of Address Book as I search for a card in the ldap directory:

conn=6 op=1 SRCH base="dc=937" scope=2 deref=0 filter="(| (givenName=andre*)(sn=andre*)(cn=andre*)(mail=andre*))"
conn=6 op=1 SRCH attr=givenName sn cn mail telephoneNumber facsimileTelephoneNumber o title ou buildingName street l st postalCode c jpegPhoto mobile co pager destinationIndicator labeledURI IMHandle

Note the last attribute in the list; it's asking for IMHandle. So where does Address Book display this? In a normal card, it's directly below the email address. It does not appear in my ldap card, though the data does exist in the ldap container. Checking Address Book's "Card --> Add Field" menu suggests that 'IMHandle' is either not available or something thinks it's already being displayed - it is greyed out in the list of attributes. I also tried editing the template, to no avail.

I suggest filing a bug at http://bugreporter.apple.com.

Several people answered my question. Thank you.
I found out that several attributes of the User-container have not been mapped.
We added mappings on server (iManager) as well as on client (Directory Services) and most of the Info-fields get populated. Except the last three items:
Chat
Homepage
Weblog
I checked Apples OpenDirectory documentation and found that some attributes exist, but no further information about how to use these attributes. I checked /etc/openldap/ for new schema information and found no new information about the items:
Chat ID: apple-imhandle
Home Page: labeledURI
Weblog: apple-webloguri

Apple's apple.schema in /etc/openldap/schema defines two of them as below:

attributetype (
        1.3.6.1.4.1.63.1000.1.1.1.1.21
        NAME ( 'apple-imhandle' )
        DESC 'IM handle (service:account name)'
        EQUALITY caseExactMatch
        SUBSTR caseExactSubstringsMatch
        SYNTAX 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.15 )

attributetype (
        1.3.6.1.4.1.63.1000.1.1.1.1.22
        NAME ( 'apple-webloguri' )
        DESC 'Weblog URI'
        EQUALITY caseExactIA5Match
        SUBSTR caseExactIA5SubstringsMatch
        SYNTAX 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.26 SINGLE-VALUE )

labeledURI is part of the core schema definitions...

Does this answer your question??

Cheers
David

Does anybody know about a source for more information about these entries?

I am trying to populate a Users "Info"-field with WGM. I click on the little globe in WGM and register as a domain administrator on our LDAP-server (Novell eDirectory). I select a users account and click on "Info". All fields are empty. I enter some information (e.g. Address) and click on "Save". A few moments later, all fields returned blank again, without any other message. Nothing is saved.
What is going wrong?

I would guess that either your LDAP service doesn't have schema defined for these attributes, or they are not mapped correctly in the ldap client configuration. Use Directory Access to examine the current mappings; you will probably find that user attributes such as EMailAddress, PhoneNumber, etc are unmapped. This is kind of a big topic; I recommend a good read of the Open Directory guide. There is also this:
