Well, yes. If it wasn't, then folder actions wouldn't work when you add
something to a folder.

Dan has an excellent point here. Modifying the sharing pane is not the way
to go. For one, you're talking about a different kind of sharing, i.e.
Database access, not filesystem or machine access. For another, you'll have
to keep a "standard" copy of the sharing pane around ANYWAY for
troubleshooting purposes. For three, damned near any update that modifies
the sharing pane is going to cause you more work.

Finally, you're not really saving yourself any work, nor anyone any time.
You're not going to write significantly less code by modifying the sharing
pane. You're not going to save them significant mouse clicks. Yes you *can*
do this, but thus far, you've listed no real technical benefits, and are
basing this all around "wanna". Yet you are surprised that no one is jumping
on board. 

The sharing preference pane is in /System/Library for a reason...you're
supposed to *leave.it.alone*. /System/Library is not to be dinked with.
