Greetings, listers.
Suddenly both FW800 ports on our G5 Dual 2.3 Xserve have gone dumb.
Nothing mounts on them, although everything mounts on the front
FW400 port.

I think that the keylock will disable mounting of external drives.
Try unlocking and then reconnecting, unless of course you've already
tried that.

If you have done that, I believe the next generic step would be a PMU reset.
Someone feel free to correct me on that - I don't work on X-Serve hardware
often.

It's very unlikely for both back ports to fail while the front port keeps

I would suggest a cold power-down - remove AC power (both AC power cords, if
the unit has a spare power supply :-)

A pmu reset is another step that should not be done "just because" it's there,
while it shouldn't cause any harm it's not quite as easy to accomplish on a G5
Xserve. We have yet to hear back about whether the keylock was engaged, which
will prevent any drives not already mounted from mounting. I'd try
Arulchandran's step next, (disconnecting all FW devices as well).

The original query says the port on the front of the Xserve works. Doesn't
that rule out lock issues?

"Works" is vague enough to lead me to wonder if you meant "is working with an already attached drive", vs. "I can mount (and unmount) any number of Firewire drives using the front-panel FW 400 port."

From your response, I take it that you've confirmed the front panel lock is not engaged. From there, have you tried any of the other suggested steps ?
