You might not be alone in that sentiment, but I'm pretty sure that there are others that highly value Dan's knowledge, regardless of how he phrases it - maybe that's me being stereotypically Australian, but I appreciate people calling a spade a spade, rather than wasting time trying to make people feel "less bad" after posting an asinine question in the first place.

I stay on this list for *information*, not so I can feel all happy with bunnies, fluffy puppies and fairies at the bottom of the garden. And I agree with Jonathan that the prospect of Dan describing my thinking as Woolly also encourages me to do my homework first - generally considered Good Practice for people in this industry IMHO, and certainly for those subscribing to any mailing list - including this one.

Maybe time to grow a thicker skin and realise that responses like Dan's - while blunt - are almost invariably useful? I'll take "blunt" over "wrong" any day of the week.

Hi Folks.

I'm back, and I'd like to thank you for the help. As a result of the problem/question/discussion/solution(s), I now have become aware of the whole new world of customizing Apache , and more specifically, the choices in dealing with URL redirection. Rather than the original problem being my little one-time issue, I learned that this is simply part of the business that needs to be managed. The single line error.html entry in OS X Server was simply the tip of the tip of the iceberg.

As little perspective. I entered the web hosting fray when I migrated from pure FileMaker database developer to FileMaker web publisher using Chris Hansen's fx.php class to interface with PHP. This opened up a world of opportunity to deliver professional web based database solutions. It also started me down the path of using OS X Server which is the ultimate Pandora's box for the uninitiated. My Filemaker colleagues are impressed with what I have accomplished, yet some of the OS X Server community views beginner-type questions with annoyance. Please be assured that in my case, I would prefer to either solve the problem myself or at least ask intelligent questions. Sometimes it just doesn't appear that way, and for that I ask indulgence....except from Dan, of course. ;-) I also would prefer "blunt" over "wrong" or no answer at all.

One more question...I get the hint about Bottom Posting. How about trimming long messages?

Jonathan
