We're having the exact same problem. Smbd is out of control. 3 win
users logged on and the smbd is running at 70% cpu.
What does fs_usage smbd have to say? If you can find out which files it's looking at, you'll have a better idea of what's going on. For instance I recently had one smbd process using 100% of one cpu in my dusl G5 Xserve and discovered that it was a client machine spotlight indexing a user's very large ~/Library/Mail folder...
