Leopard login window password change bug

I think I've isolated an issue with Leopard, wondered if anyone else here has seen it.  I authenticate my local users against the server and sync their home folders since pulling them directly from the server is far from reliable. One of my users was having problems with her account, so I had to blast it and recreate it.  When I did, of course I gave her the standard generic password and set the server to require her to change it when she logged in again.  Leopard dutifully displayed the change password dialog, but it refused to accept the new password, no matter what we tried.  So I logged her in with the generic password and connected to a share on the server.  On a lark, I decided to try to change her password in the connect to server window.  It worked there, and she was able to log out and log back in with the new password.  I've had this happen to three users.
