Does anyone know if the procedure for creating an OD Master in an
existing AD environment is still (basically) the same as it was in
Tiger? [snip]
And can anyone verify that it still works ?
Also, for those of you familiar with the "Magic Triangle", do you
plan on utilizing this paradigm in Leopard Server, or will you
abandon it for the newer "Cylindar of Destiny" paradigm using
Leopard's new augmented records (which I admittedly dont known
anything about outside of Joel's sneak-peek at WWDC)
Can someone talk to me about this ? I don't know which set of setup
instructions it's talking about and whether I should use them. I
would also be grateful for any advice on the following:
I will be setting up a completely new 10.5 server which controls login
accounts for lab computers, authentication for some areas of its web
server, iCal Server calendars, and groups. This will be a clean
installation, so there's no need to worry about migration, legacy
stuff or traditional setups. I have tested all this as a stand-alone
system (my server as Open Directory Master) and I understand most of
what's going on.
My place of work uses AD. I want to use this for authentication --
just usernames and passwords -- for OS X 10.5 clients and I will need
my server to update automatically when new people are put into the AD
setup. I will want to make my own groups and put the AD users into my
own groups. I might be interested in mounting the Windows home
directories from the AD setup as the Mac home directories, but it's
not important. I don't need anything else from the AD setup.
Would someone tell my which of the things listed in the manual I
should be doing ? I've read them all, I'm just confused by the
alternatives. Should I be doing the stuff listed on page 95 of the
Open Directory Admin book ? Or page 121 ? Or what ?
