Re: PasswordServer problem

I noticed when browsing the PasswordServer database that I have duplicates in the database, for example:

slot 0021: 0x4659caf612b0207f0000001600000015          ianvan 11/07/2007 03:17:14 PM

How can that happen, when no two users or machines can have the same shortname?

This is ancillary to your question, but I did want to point out:

Those aren't truly duplicates. It's entirely possible for directory records to have name collisions, because Mac OS X can connect simultaneously to many different directories at once. This is the reason for more specific means of record identification, such as GUIDs, or in this case, password server slot IDs. The slot IDs shown above are different.

In the event of a name collision across multiple directory records in different domains, the search path determines which record 'wins'.

In the event of 'stale' entries in the password server DB, where an entry's slot ID doesn't correspond to any known slot ID, the stale entry is simply ignored. The lookups within password server are all keyed on slot ID.
