Server Monitor?

Is this good for anything if you don't have XServe hardware?

I'm running Leopard Server on a PowerMac quad. I've entered the IP in Server Monitor, but it sits there forever with a Status Summary of "? Waiting for response"

If it is true that it only works for XServe hardware, anyone know of a sneaky plist or nvram hack that can make it useful for other server hardware?
