Please keep replies on the list. Others may benefit.

Neither Directory or Address Book will let you edit IIRC. Try
cn=users,dc=server,dc=domain,dc=com. I saw this while poking around in
the /Library/Preferences/DirectoryService/DSLDAPv3PlugInConfig.plist
file.
