You list a lot of actions you took after the initial problem, which could complicate matters.


I can only tell you where to look for clues.

1. The first thing you should do is run

apachectl configtest

This checks that the httpd.conf and included files are syntactically clean, and will report if any errors are found in the files.

2. The /var/log/httpd/error_log should have messages about any problems starting up.

3. httpd daemons that are crashing will leave messages in /Library/ Logs/CrashReporter/httpd.crash.log

These logs might help you find the cause of the problem.
