I tried the code you proposed
// Define the information to access the mysql server
$mysql_access = array(
'host' => "localhost", // can be in form of
host:port.
'socket' => ":/var/mysql/mysql.sock", // path to mysql socket
'username' => "mysql_username", // username for mysql
access.
'password' => "mysql_password", // password for mysql
access.
'connection' => "socket", // connection type to
use. (use socket for local)
); // DO NOT CHANGE THIS!!!
// Establish a connection to the server
$connection = mysql_connect($mysql_access[$mysql_access
['connection']],$mysql_access['username'] ,$mysql_access['password']);
but it still doesn't work. The error is still "Can't connect to
local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)".
Did you edit the username and password to match a username and
password you assigned in mysql??
If it's not working then the username / password is wrong or mysql is
not running.
Judging from the error type 2, a connection could not be established
and this is a good indication that mysql isn't running.
I heard of MySQL Manager.app, could it help me? The problem is that
I cannot find it on my disk (Mac OS X 10.4.10)...
It was installed with the other Server tools so you might wanna look
in the Server directory.
If you can't find it then you're not using Mac OS X Server software
or you deleted all of the important files like "/usr/bin/mysql" and "/
Applications/Server/MySQL Manager.app" which would have been a feat
in itself since you don't seem to know where anything is or how
anything works.
