`killall -HUP DirectoryService` doesn't work for you?

this is what I have used. but I wasn't sure if it restarted everything needed.

A HUP seems to be used to tell DS that a network transition just occured.
On the other hand, a TERM cleanly shuts down DS (which would then be relaunched by launchd, hence a full reinitialization of the daemon).

Now, what do you mean by "everything needed"?
Perhaps does your original question have a broader scope than just the DS daemon?
