Re: iChat Server global roster

It would have made considerable sense if Apple had auto-generated this kind of thing in the form of a web page (dynamic or updated periodically).  Unlike Bonjour, when we add a user they have a blank buddy list.

There needs to be a way to pre-populate the buddy list automatically based on a group criteria in WGM.  If a user signs in, they get a pre-defined list from the server based upon the domain name or IP address they used to access the server...

A 'default group' would also be welcome where based upon WGM preferences every user might be added to a default group that is shared across all users on the server.  An "Everyone" group that shows up automatically in each iChat user's buddy list.

It would also make sense to have the groups in the Address Book control the groups in iChat and visa versa.  If iChat were provided groups from the OS and as such a special "show as group in iChat" check box was a perimeter of any group in the Address Book, we could have smart groups in iChat.  We could also theoretically have LDAP controlled groups in iChat by way of Address Book.

Right now, the organization metadata between iChat and everything else is far too manual. It needs to be integrated into the central database (where Address Book is tapped) so the user experience is smoother from iChat all the way back to OpenDirectory or even ActiveDirectory.

Hi,
Is it possible to make an global roster for all iChat accounts ?
Thanks for the answers
KAY

I created a couple of scripts that create a master roster of all jabber users on the server & loops through each users xml file & updates their roster.  The scripts work well for us, but required Jabber be stopped & restarted.  So it is possible.  It's not a perfect solution by any means - but works well enough for our purposes.
