After eleven years in the same job and fifteen in I.T., I will be
saying goodbye to the Mac admin community this January. I will miss
the interesting form of comity on this list... sort of an
understanding that many of the people here are the type who live in
dark caves and run from the sound of human voices... but with an
incongruously social Mac twist. It has been an honor to be considered
a member of this community, and I'll miss your weird companionship.
From now on, the flamewars with dhan will have to be carried out
without me.
So anyway the result is: my job of Director of Information Technology
for an innovative non-profit in Alexandria, Virginia (just outside
DC) is now open. You may have seen me whining on this list about the
burdens of my job. Despite having an excellent Network Manager and
Database Manager working with me, I still have to play the Mac
generalist role of being all technological things to everyone. This
is not a job for the cave-dweller, but rather for a socially-capable
Macophile who can understand all the geeky stuff, but who can also
work with non-techie executives in developing corporate strategy and
advising on anything technological. It's a tough job, but some people
would love it: great colleagues, 7-hour workdays (theoretically), a
whole company to migrate to Leopard, superb benefits, a small-but-
enterprise-class data center to play in, tons of vacation time, and
no Windows stinkin' up the place (though that may change... that'll
be up to you). If you're interested, the job description can be found
here: http://www.ascp.com/jobs
P.S. If you'd like to say goodbye, it should probably be off-list.
Conrad was nice enough to allow me this post, but let's not spam up
the list. Thanks!
