We have setup a number of Xserves with OS X Server 10.4.9 on a private
network with Firewall setup to block vaious ports.
The network is 192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x variety.
The firewall is using any to any relationships for the blocking, but boxes
with 192.168.x.x addresses work great. The 10.x.x.x boxes block outbound
traffic and allowing inbound traffic on an allowed ports.
What does the output of
sudo ipfw list
say on your 10.x.x.x boxes?
