look for lots of entries like:

Oct  1 11:07:12 mail com.apple.SecurityServer: authinternal failed to
authenticate user root.
Oct  1 11:07:12 mail com.apple.SecurityServer: Failed to authorize right
system.login.tty by process /usr/sbin/sshd for authorization created by
/usr/sbin/sshd.
Oct  1 11:07:12 mail sshd[19607]: Failed password for root from 158.108.2.19
port 35997 ssh2
Oct  1 11:07:14 mail com.apple.SecurityServer: authinternal failed to
authenticate user root.
Oct  1 11:07:14 mail com.apple.SecurityServer: Failed to authorize right
system.login.tty by process /usr/sbin/sshd for authorization created by
/usr/sbin/sshd.
Oct  1 11:07:14 mail sshd[19610]: Failed password for root from 158.108.2.19
port 36080 ssh2
Oct  1 11:07:17 mail com.apple.SecurityServer: authinternal failed to
authenticate user root.
Oct  1 11:07:17 mail com.apple.SecurityServer: Failed to authorize right
system.login.tty by process /usr/sbin/sshd for authorization created by
/usr/sbin/sshd.
Oct  1 11:07:17 mail sshd[19613]: Failed password for root from 158.108.2.19
port 36166 ssh2
Oct  1 11:07:19 mail sshd[19616]: Invalid user test from 158.108.2.19
Oct  1 11:07:19 mail com.apple.SecurityServer: authinternal failed to
authenticate user test.
Oct  1 11:07:19 mail com.apple.SecurityServer: Failed to authorize right
