If you maintain an open SSH connection to the server, does it remain responsive during one of these episodes, and if so, can you use it to reboot the server?

I'm actually not able to create an ssh connection once things have hit the fan, so to speak.


That's actually a pretty clever idea, to keep one open at all times.

It's one more good reason for having your serial console port ;)
