Ok eventually the front firewire port stopped working all together. So it's
a part problem.

Weird thing is that the Firewire 800 rear ports, while they continue to
work, only manage 8MB/s. And the firewire front ports use a front card and
ribbon cable back to the logic board while the rear ones go to their own
connection on the logic board.

Everything else on the logic board is behaving.

I connected USB drives and was able to do >18MB/s transfers in a few seconds
of testing.

Could there be a bottleneck between the firewire system and the Xserver Raid
Card?

Going to call Apple tech support.....
