you don't need the fiber channel switch unless you add a 3 xserve.


you can use the fiber switch, both volumes will be accessible to each xserve. it's just like expanding the bus. you can setup share points with ACL's to control who connects to what.

Without XSAN?

I think what the OP wants is to use each side of the RAID as a separate storage device. To do this and have each XServe see only one side he just needs to cable from each side to each XServe. 2 cables. No switch needed.

To have both XServes see things on both sides (directly without file sharing) would require an XSAN type of setup.

Or I'm being dense.
