I currently have Mac OS X server version 10.4.9 (waiting for summer
break to go to 10.5) running with 3 X Serves. X Serve A is the open
directory master. B and C store network home directories for 2
different schools (sep. server for each school). Home service is
provide by AFP, Kerberos and Open Directory. I use MCX and WorkGroup
manager to handle all set up of home directories etc. The majority of
my client machines are Mac OS 10.3 or 10.4 with a few 10.5 machines in
the mix.
I am wanting to experiment with being able to provide authentication
and network home directories for other OS's, specifically Windows (XP/
Vista) and Linux (Ubuntu, Edubuntu, K12LTSP clients). I have Googled
various times but can't seem to find any good references on if this
can be done and how to do it. Ideally, I would love it if say an
Edubuntu machine could either pull a list of names (like the Macs do)
or would at least allow a student or staff member to enter their short
name and password and then provide them with access to their home
directory.
Can this be done? Can someone provide me a bread crumb trail or a url
to something helpful?
Thanks in advance,
