I wish to exclude certain names from the listing in Directory.app. Some
accounts that are only used for very limited ftp or mail or other
administrative purposes don't need to be seen by our users - in fact there are
a couple we absolutely cannot allow them to see.  How can we accomplish this?
Right now any account I created in WGM gets displayed to all users.

Try creating a new OU or CN for those accounts, and moving them there. That
should hide them from Directory, especially if you use OUs.

How in the world would I do that? I'm just using WGM user and computer groups.

In that case, I would HIGHLY recommend buying up some of the more recent O’Reilly LDAP books. Having a working knowledge of how LDAP works at a lower level will bring you serious payoffs when dealing with Open Directory. Specifically:

LDAP System Administration, <http://oreilly.com/catalog/9781565924918/index.html>
Kerberos: The definitive guide, <http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596004033/index.html>
DNS & Bind, <http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596100575/index.html>

Some of those have oldish publishing dates, but I’d not let that stop you from getting them. The basic principles of those subjects, and quite a bit of the implementation haven’t changed a lot in 3-4 years, (they’re rather stable technologies), and understanding them will make doing what you need to do far easier than following someone else’s set of steps, and more importantly, you’ll have a better understanding of what it is you’re actually doing and why. In the long run, knowing what you’re doing before you do it will make your network and your users much happier.
