Yes. And all that stuff about "setting up the DNS name of the machine" tells
me that you need DNS to do that with. You also need a functional network to
connect the machine to.
The docs don't tell you that you need a network. That the network has to be
functional. They don't tell you that you need AC power either. What else
don't they tell you?
What you want is not documentation but, literally, a step by step howto that
includes every possible situation that could arise and every configuration.
You want an endless series of dialog boxes with movies that say "This is an
ethernet cable. It goes in the hole that looks like this on a mini, this on
a Mac Pro, this on a G5 tower...."
Oh, then it should explain ethernet I suppose, so that no prior knowledge of
that is needed.
What you want is something that technology, right now, cannot do. You, with
your mighty IEEE articles *should* know this. Evidently, you do not.
Apple has not promised magic, they have promised easier. The fact that you,
or others read "Easier" and think "magic" is not within their ability to
control.
